Gym Groups and Squads
The club is open to both boys and girls from [five to sixteen], and there are sessions to cater for juniors, intermediate and seniors. The boys and girls have separate training sessions. The club welcomes both recreational gymnasts and those who aspire to train and compete more seriously.
Boys
There are recreational groups for all ages and three boys’ squads.
The youngest are in the 5 – 7 year age range and are chosen from the recreational juniors group for extended development and training activity on a Saturday morning.
These boys can progress on ability at 7 or 8 years into an entry-level Mini Squad who train for a minimum of three two hour evening sessions each week, and on Saturday mornings.
From the age of 8 boys can compete in County and Regional competitions and when they begin competing they join the full competition squad which currently comprises around a dozen boys who continue to train three or four times a week with additional monthly county and regional training.
There are also opportunities for recreational gymnasts to compete in the Bucks Floor and Vault and Bucks Four Piece Team Apparatus competitions.
Girls
The girls’ recreational classes – an hour and a quarter on Saturdays for juniors and improvers, and a two-hour session on Thursdays for intermediates and senior gymnasts – are very popular.
There is a girls’ squad to which those who show potential may be invited. The squad trains three times a week, on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.
Both recreational and squad gymnasts participate with some success in competitions like the Bucks Floor and Vault and the Bucks Four Piece Team Apparatus.
Club Championships
The club holds an annual Championship for all members where boys and girls compete in teams of mixed age and ability on floor, vault, beam (girls), parallel bars (boys) and trampette.
Coaching
Some of the older gymnasts work to gain their coaching certificates and support the club as assistant coaches. Some parents also volunteer to help and go on to become coaches or help with the running of the club.
